Part 2
The purpose
of a trailer is to market the film and get it noticed by the general public and
by the target audience. It is a little teaser to get people involved and so
they can see what kind of film it is and then decide whether or not they would
want to pay money to go see it and whether or not it is the type of genre they
like. A horror trailer has to contain all the techniques which grab an audience’s
attention, for example it has to include as much about the plot as possible but
not too much because you don’t want to give too much away. They also include
some of the jumpy bits which are featured in the film to scare the audience whilst
they are watching the trailer; they also contain mystery which then makes the
audience want to guess the plot which then drives them to go see it. They all
contain a few shots of writing which have been edited in to briefly explain
what the film is about but without giving too much away. They also contain a
date of when the film is released at the end, this is a good technique being at
the end as the audience have to wait until the end of the trailer until they
can find out when the film comes out instead of seeing the date at the
beginning and not bothering to watch the trailer. Marketers want their films to
come across exactly how they planned to their preferred audience, for example
if they want the film to come across as a horror and to be a mystery, then
there wouldn’t be much give away within the trailer but there would be all the
conventions of a horror trailer such as; black and red colours, scary locations
such as a church or graveyard and scary voice over or scary voices such as
whispering.
Part 5
I
honestly don’t believe that my trailer is as professional as it could be as it
took a long time to film and was difficult getting everyone at a certain place
at a certain time so therefore the trailer got a bit messy. I do however think
that it is conventional as it contains writing and the date of the film and
there are jumpy parts within the trailer. I just don’t think that the trailer
reached its full potential.
